Te Anau project gains Dulux Colour Awards nod

Congratulations to Master of Architecture (Professional) ākonga Hudson Ross who has been named as a finalist in the 39th Dulux Colour Awards.

The Trans-Tasman awards celebrate the most innovative and inspiring uses of colour in architecture and design across New Zealand and Australia.

Hudson is a finalist in the New Zealand Student category for his Bachelor of Architectural Studies 3rd year major design project, Te Anau Downs Outdoor Lodge.

This section recognises "excellence in paint specification by architecture or interior design students who are currently undertaking or have recently completed a course by a recognised university or college."

Across all 8 categories, New Zealand projects impressed the judging panel of six industry experts, with this year's finalists praised for showcasing "a fearless approach to colour and push creative boundaries."

New Zealand-based judge Alex McLeod (co-founder of Auckland interior design studio, at.space) noted that "Hudson's project is bold, innovative, and full of ambition. Dulux Kaitaia [paint] has been used as a powerful design tool, embracing colour to create an impactful design."

Hudson was also recently awarded the 2024 Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZIA Southern Branch Student Design Award for his Te Anau project, which he says challenged him to use architecture to help the younger generation reconnect to Aotearoa.

Winners in the Dulux Colour Awards will be announced on Wednesday, 28 May 2025 at the National Gallery of Victoria, with Hudson among the finalists getting flown to Melbourne, Australia to attend the awards ceremony.
